Only a re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government has the plan to support the Tasmanian way of life.

Following our commitment of more than $3 million to support recreational fishers, I am pleased to announce that we will provide further funding for recreational sea fishers in Tasmania.

We will provide $350,000 over two years to implement Tasmania’s first ever 10-year Recreational Sea Fishing Strategy, including $250,000 for a Flathead for the Future program and $100,000 to make fishing easier for people of all ages and abilities.

We will develop harvest strategies for abalone, rock lobster, scallop and key recreational scale fish species, review the rules to allow catch sharing on the water between fishers, and promote and increase fisher participation in fisheries research and management processes.

If re-elected, we will also provide $150,000 to extend the East Coast Rock Lobster Translocation Program, accelerate development of a new East Coast Stock Rebuilding Zone Strategy to enable increased rock lobster take arrangements for recreational fishers, and commit $400,000 over three years to support peak industry body TARFish.

Our Government also stands by our guarantee of no new taxes for recreational fishing in Tasmania.

Fishing is a cherished way of life for over 100,000 Tasmanians and contributes more than $160,000 to the state’s economy.

Only a re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government has the clear plan to secure Tasmania’s future.
