Gone Fishing Day, a national initiative of the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARFF), is returning on Sunday 18 October 2026, and OzFish chapters across the country are excited to offer a range of events throughout October in celebration.

Gone Fishing Day is a day to get out on the water, and reconnect with nature, your mates, and the waterways we all fight to improve.

Recreational fishing has always been more than just a rod and a line. It’s family time, mateship, knowledge passed down through generations, and a shared love of the outdoors. Research shows it’s genuinely good for us too, supporting our wellbeing through social connection, relaxation and time in nature.

Throughout October, OzFish chapters around Australia will be hosting events to mark Gone Fishing Day. It’s a chance to wet a line, swap stories and enjoy a relaxed day on the water with fellow OzFishers. However your local chapter chooses to celebrate, whenever they choose to celebrate, there’s a spot for you.

Keep an eye out for upcoming Gone Fishing Day events in your local area and check in regularly with your region’s social pages.
