The Fishing Stream is the new live streaming initiative developed by the DPI as a part of the NSW Government’s efforts to help support the tackle industry in NSW and encourage more people to wet a line.
The trial event at the Nowra TackleWorld store on 14 August proved successful with 73,000 reach, 15,000 views and significant audience engagement via our social media pages. We received a lot of support for the concept from “grassroots” fishers and as a result, are planning to expand The Fishing Stream across the state. You can check it out here.
Episode II of the Fishing Stream (focusing on mulloway) was held at the BCF store in Batemans Bay on the evening of 17 September 2020. This was another successful event with a reach of 64,000 and 18,000 views at the time of writing. You can check it out here.
Going forward, DPI plan to stage Episode III further down the coast and will feature Compleat Angler and independent tackle stores in subsequent episodes in south-western and western NSW, the Illawarra, Sydney, the central coast and the north and north-west of the state.
DPI’s Senior Fisheries Manager, Jim Harnwell says, “It is highly unlikely we will be able to stage an event at every single tackle shop in NSW but please be assured we will go to as many as possible! Likewise, we will approach a range of tackle manufacturers to purchase prizes as giveaways during the various events.”
This initiative allows DPI an effective platform to deliver our key responsible fishing message but also – and very importantly – provides a great opportunity for us to work cooperatively with local tackle shops and the tackle industry to actively promote recreational fishing as a fantastic family activity and important economic and social driver, especially in regional areas.
