It’s no secret that Territorians love their fishing, with a third of NT adults going fishing each year, far surpassing the national average of 21%. Recreational Fishing also contributes $270m to the Territory economy, supporting 2,500 full time jobs. With so much interest and so much at stake, it is essential to have well-informed management and decision making and that is where this groundbreaking social survey comes in.

The NT Recreational Fishing Experience Survey is supported by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and conducted in collaboration with NT Fisheries. It aims to delve deep into the experiences of recreational fishers to help inform resource utilisation and measure fishery performance. The survey, which is focused on Barramundi fishing, is now taking place at boat ramps and online. All recreational Barramundi fishers are encouraged to participate.

Key Survey Highlights:

  • Your Voice Matters: We want to hear from you! Share your thoughts on your fishing experiences to help shape the future of fishing in NT.
  • Confidential and Collective: Your individual responses will remain strictly confidential and will be amalgamated with others for a comprehensive analysis.
  • No Wrong Answers: There are no right or wrong answers—just your honest opinions on the fishing experiences you love.
  • Fish for the Future: Your insights will contribute to informed fisheries management, ensuring a sustainable and enjoyable fishing future for all.
